About Hill & Blume

Sydney Surveyors Since 1930. Nearly a Century of Surveying Sydney

Hill & Blume has been part of Sydney’s surveying profession since 1930.

Over that time, Sydney has changed enormously. Suburbs have expanded, skylines have transformed, technology has reshaped the way we work, and the complexity of property and development has continued to grow.

Hill & Blume has evolved with it.

What began as a traditional surveying practice has grown into a modern surveying consultancy serving residential, commercial, construction, development, and infrastructure projects across Sydney and NSW.

More than 90 years later, the principles behind the business remain remarkably simple: know your profession, take responsibility for your work, and give people information they can rely on.

Our Story

Hill & Blume was established in Sydney in 1930, at a time when surveying looked very different from the profession we know today.

There were no drones capturing sites from above. No laser scanners producing millions of measurement points. No digital models that could recreate a site in three dimensions.

Surveying relied heavily on the experience, judgement, and precision of the surveyor in the field.

While the tools have changed, that responsibility has not.

Across generations, Hill & Blume has continued to build on the knowledge of the people who came before it while adopting new technology and better ways of working.

The result is a business that carries almost a century of experience without being stuck in the past.

Today, our surveyors work with sophisticated surveying equipment, laser scanning, drone photogrammetry, point clouds, 3D modelling, and digital data. But technology is only useful when it is backed by people who understand what they are measuring, why it matters, and how that information will ultimately be used.

That combination of experience and progress has shaped Hill & Blume into the business it is today.

The People Behind Hill & Blume

A surveying practice is ultimately built on its people.

Today, Paul Cechellero leads Hill & Blume and continues the firm’s long-standing commitment to professional surveying as it enters its next chapter.

Alongside our leadership team is a group of experienced surveyors and professionals who bring diverse expertise to the business.

1930 to Today

Hill & Blume’s story began in 1930.

Since then, both our city and our profession have been transformed.

Sydney has grown outwards and upwards. Homes have made way for apartments, industrial areas have become new communities, and increasingly ambitious projects have reshaped the city’s skyline.

Surveying has undergone its own transformation.

We continue to invest in modern surveying methods and technology because our clients’ projects demand it. The industry moves forward, and so do we.

At the same time, there are qualities that technology cannot replace.

Knowing when something doesn’t look right. Understanding the complexities of a site. Communicating clearly with an architect, builder, homeowner, or developer. Taking ownership of the work that leaves our office.

Those qualities come from people.

And after more than nine decades, they remain at the heart of Hill & Blume.

The Next Chapter

Sydney will continue to change, just as it has since our first surveys were completed in 1930.

There will be new buildings, new infrastructure, new communities, and new technologies that change our profession again.

The future of surveying will be more digital, more connected, and increasingly integrated with the way buildings and places are designed, constructed, and managed.

We want Hill & Blume to help shape that future.

That means continuing to invest in our people. Continuing to embrace technology with purpose. Continuing to build relationships that last beyond a single project. And continuing to hold ourselves to the professional standards that have carried the Hill & Blume name this far.

There is a great deal behind us.

We’re even more excited about what lies ahead.
